Monrovia – Renowned Human Rights lawyer, Cllr. Tiawon Saye Gongloe has petitioned the Supreme Court for AMICUS CURIAE to aid in resolving the House of Representatives impasse. Gongloe aims to demonstrate the Court’s supremacy of law over politics under the Constitution.
In his December 7 petition, Gongloe, with over 36 years of legal practice, asserts the Court’s jurisdiction over leadership disputes in the Legislature. He highlighted two petitions before the Court, including one from November 22, 2024, questioning the constitutionality of actions by some House members.
Gongloe, former Liberia National Bar Association President, cited actions such as convening a plenary without the Speaker’s authority, suspending three representatives, restructuring House leadership, and seizing the 2025 Draft National Budget.
He emphasized that the Court’s role in determining the constitutionality of legislative actions is an exercise of its authority under Articles 2, 65, and 66 of the Constitution of Liberia.
